Motorcycle Accidents
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 100,000 motorcyclists were killed in accidents that occurred between 1966 and 2000. Approximately three-fourths of all motorcycle accidents involve another motor vehicle, usually a car. Two-thirds of these accidents were caused by the driver failing to yield the right of way. The most common reason given by the driver who ran into the motorcyclist is that the driver "didn't see" the motorcycle. If you are on a motorcycle and are hit by a car, you are three times more likely to be injured and fourteen times more likely to be killed than a person in an accident involving two cars.
If you were injured due to the negligence of the other driver, you are entitled to be fully compensated for your medical bills and lost wages from the insurance carrier covering the vehicle that struck you. If the driver has no insurance or not enough insurance, then you may be able to pursue a claim against your own personal auto insurance or the auto insurance policy of a member of your household, depending on those insurance policy provisions. If you carry Uninsured / Underinsured Motorists Coverage you may be compensated by your insurer for amounts that you would be legally entitled to recover as damages from the owner or driver of the motor vehicle.
